It is summer so I’m in a mood of making something with bright color. I have a multi-dyed craft yarn and a t-shirt yarn which I made on my last post so I decided to make a purse for my 6 years old niece.
Let’s put together what we need.
- craft yarn (I pick the one with pink, my niece love pink)
- t-shirt yarn (see how to make it from the previous post)
- crochet hook
- scissor
- zipper
- thread and needle
- shoe lace (optional if you want to add a shoulder strip)
Final size of this purse is 6″ x 4″. Adjust the size of the step below as you like.
A t-shirt yarn is a base and a craft yarn will be wrap around a t-shirt yarn with a loops.
First loop – wrap a craft yarn around a t-shirt with crochet hook and do a stitch as below.
The second loop – Go under a t-shirt then above a craft yarn get a loop with a crochet. Now there are 2 loops, go behind a craft yarn get another loop . Go through all the loops with a crochet.
Repeat this step until a t-shirt is warped for 3.5″. now we will start the second row by turn the base yarn, put the crochet hook in previous stitch then go under a base yarn grab a craft yarn then go above base yarn grab the craft yarn go through all loops. Keep doing at the same position for 2 more stitches to make it turn then move to the next stitch. Keep doing the same until start the fourth circle. Try to stack this row on top of the third circle as the picture below.
At the end of the tenth row cut the t-shirt angle. Keep doing the same stitch until finish so the connection of the two ends are even.
The stitch pattern inside and outside are not the same. I like the inside pattern so I turn the inside out.
Put the zipper on by using back stitch (hand sew). You can use a snap or what ever please it you.
Now it is time to decorate a purse, add a shoulder strip by insert a shoelace on each side of a zipper. There are a small gap there. Make knot and/or sew to secure it. You also can add more character to the purse by hanging a pull on the zipper header.
I hope my niece like this purse.
